Riza Santos is competing in the Miss Universe Canada 2013 pageant which is having its pageant night on May 25. Riza gained fame in the Philippines because she joined the local showbiz after the Miss Earth pageant which was held here. She was one of the housemates of Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition 2 where she became the runner-up.

Ay look! Miss Universe 2012 sent our representative Janine Tugonon together with Miss USA Olivia Culpo to guest in a television show in Las Vegas.
And, of course, they only send the best contestants to stuff like this.
Czech Republic’s Tereza Fajksova won the Miss Earth 2012 pageant held November 24 at the Versailles Palace in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
During the Top 4 Q&A, she admitted that she did not understand the question and just gave a message about caring for the environment.
Filipino transgender Kevin Balot won the biggest title in gay beauty pageants when she was crowned Miss International Queen 2012 last Friday in Pattaya, Thailand.
Miss International Queen is an annual pageant for transgenders all over the world. There are no local pageants that choose the representatives, and contestants are not limited to just one per country.
Miss International 2012 was held yesterday and Miss Philippines Nicole Schmitz was part of the Top 15. She failed to place in the Top 5 but we know she did her best during the competition.
Each of the Top 15 candidates gave a short speech, and Nicole was convincing, her diction almost perfect, when she delivered hers. Check it out in the video below.
Janine Marie Tugonon was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2012 in the pageant night held on April 15th at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. She will be the country’s representative in the Miss Universe 2012 pageant to be held in December.
Janine was last year’s 1st runner-up, and she joined this year’s pageant to snatch one of the crowns. Luckily, she got the highest honor of being Bb. Pilipinas-Universe.
Another contestant from last year was Mary Jean Lastimosa who was last year’s 2nd runner-up. She, though, despite being part of the top 12, didn’t even land a place in the top 5 this year.
Other winners who were crowned were Katrina Jayne Dimaranan as Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism and Nicole Schmitz as Bb. Pilipinas-International. 1st runner-up went to Elaine Kay Moll and Annalie Forbes was awarded 2nd runner-up.
The pageant was hosted by Xian Lim, Iza Calzado, Georgina Wilson and Venus Raj. The panel of judges include popular actor Richard Gomez, Azkals star striker Phil Younghusband, and Riza Hontiveros among others.
Other contestants who became part of the top 12 were Mary Jean Lastimosa, Patricia Lae Ejercitado, Karen Juanita Gallman, Sherlyn Gonzales, Liezl Alcantara, Angelee Claudett delos Reyes and Gina Joy Howell.
Special Awards:
Pageant fans were disappointed with the pageant’s choice of our representative to the prestigious Ms. Universe. She’s pretty, but they don’t think she has what the Ms. Universe pageant is looking for.
Anyway, Bb. Pilipinas still has a long time to prepare Janine for the Ms. U pageant. Let’s just cross our fingers that she may surpass, or even just duplicate, what Venus Raj and Shamcey Supsup has achieved.

Our very own Gwendoline Ruais was crowned 1st runner-up at the Miss World 2011 pageant held on November 6th (7th in the Philippines) at the Earls Court Two in London. She was also a finalist in the fast-track competitions Beach Beauty, Top Model and Beauty with a Purpose.
A lot of Filipinos were in the audience including the parents of Ruais. They were one of those with the loudest cheers, boosting our contestant's confidence.
Venezuela's Ivian Sarcos was crowned the winner while Miss Puerto Rico Amanda Vilanova was 2nd runner-up.
The Philippines has been winning in the international beauty pageants. Venus Raj was Miss Universe 2010 4th runner-up, Shamcey Supsup was Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up, and now Gwendoline Ruais got this year's highest honor a Filipina got in an international beauty pageant.
Gwendoline was the country's first representative to the Miss World pageant under Cory Quirino. I guess it was really a good thing that a Filipina now owns the local franchise of the prestigious pageant.
Honestly I never thought Gwendoline would even make it to the semi-finals. She looks like a model, alright, but her looks is not my typical beauty queen standards. But then again, I'm just a pageant fan and not a pro. :D
