Czech Republic’s Tereza Fajksova won the Miss Earth 2012 pageant held November 24 at the Versailles Palace in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
During the Top 4 Q&A, she admitted that she did not understand the question and just gave a message about caring for the environment.
She had limited English, she should have requested for an interpreter. But then should it be a pointer to pageant contestants to just have a meaningful message that coincides with the pageant’s theme in handy for the times that they cannot understand the question?
1st runner-up or Miss Earth Air was Philippines’ Stephany Stefanowitz; 2nd runner-up or Miss Earth Water was Venezuela’s Osmariel Villalobos; and 3rd runner-up or Miss Earth Fire was Brazil’s Camila Brant.
The pageant was held outdoors, and the wind ruined everyone’s hairdo, most especially the hair of Marc Nelson who was the event’s host.
Anyway, the thing that really made me cringe was the fact that the production seemed not ready at all for the most important part of the pageant – the coronation.
So Miss Brazil was declared Miss Earth Fire, she stepped forward and waited a million years for her sash and flowers. She looked at a woman walking towards her thinking perhaps she had the sash but instead, the woman came past her and ran to the other side of the stage.
Marc and the two female hosts Sandra Seifert and Ginger Conejero proceeded to declare Miss Venezuela as Miss Earth Water. She stepped forward and just like Brazil (who by that time still had no sash and flowers), Venezuela waited for the award presenters. You could see Philippines and Czech Republic hugging each other behind Venezuela. More running on the stage.
The hosts seemed to cannot look at the camera and didn’t know what to do. After an awkward million years, they proceeded to declare Miss Philippines as Miss Earth Air which meant that Miss Czech Republic was the winner.
I couldn’t help but cringe. Honestly, my barangay’s gay pageant is a little more organized than that.
